
I’ve heard it often. You want to write your memoir but something’s holding you back.
You have stories to tell, but it may be hard to write about yourself.
Are you worried about finding your “voice” as a writer?
Sometimes it helps to consider memoir writing from the point of view of a novelist.
Think of yourself and the people you’re introducing to readers as characters in a novel. You are, of course, the main character. Family, friends, co-workers and others are supporting characters.
You can use this technique to put some distance between the “you” writing a memoir and the “you” in the story.
